01 — Problem
Multiple collaboration products created information silos
Most intranet searches only search their particular platform. For example, searching on SharePoint would only yield content from SharePoint. If the user doesn't know where the information is, they may end up searching the intranet, social network, Google Drive, Office 365, etc.
02 — Solution
We first developed a search engine using ElasicSearch. At a company hackathon, we collaborated with engineers from different teams to expand the search engine's capabilities. Websites, social posts, cloud documents, and code can be searched from a single search interface.
03 — Impact
- Search volume increased 20%+ as the search became more dependable
- User research showed users finding documents faster than before
